Consonus Music Institute is an accredited after-school ensemble program for 5th – 12th graders that makes learning and playing music fun for kids and affordable for parents. CMI was established in 2011 to fill a gap in music education. Our goal is to bring the benefits of music education to a greater number of youth through high-quality programs. CMI offers guitar programs in Salt Lake, Davis and Utah Counties. As our student base grows, we will expand to new locations.
CMI programs compliment and reinforce private lessons and school music programs while offering a solution for beginning students who do not have access to other learning methods. The ensemble format is key to the CMI approach. Through ensemble play, our students learn teamwork, accountability, responsibility, and timing while developing the confidence and courage to perform live. Students are more motivated when they know they are practicing techniques and passages that will be performed with their group.
Our teaching system, developed by internationally renowned musician and instructor, Mike Christiansen, covers all aspects of music including reading, standard music notation, harmony and theory, technique and improvisation. Our certified teachers know how to inspire and direct students with a variety of skill levels. From beginner to advanced, CMI students continually improve by playing a variety of music styles specially arranged for multiple parts and skill levels.
